I am not a native Southern Californian. I’m originally from a small town in the Central Valley about halfway between Bakersfield and Fresno. Believe me when I say that I jumped at the chance to relocate to SoCal after college! Southern California has beautiful weather, amazing beaches, and wonderful activities for both day and night. So when Kristen over at Easy Teaching Tools suggested some of us SoCal bloggers link up and share our favorite SoCal spots, I was all too happy to share my Southern California Faves!
Let’s start at the beach! My favorite beach here in San Diego is the beach at Coronado. Coronado “Island” (it’s really a peninsula) is located across the bay from downtown San Diego.
It has a beautiful sandy beach that stretches for miles. You can waste the day away soaking in the sun and enjoying the fresh ocean air. My favorite spot on the beach is close to the Hotel del Coronado. The Del, as us locals call it, has amazing Bloody Mary’s and cute little shops inside if you need a little time out of the California sun. Another thing I love about Coronado is that it’s small enough for you to walk from the beach to quickly grab a bite to eat. If you are a foodie you find plenty of amazing restaurants to appreciate. My personal favorite is Costa Azul. It is this adorable Mexican Cantina that always leaves me wishing I lived closer to Coronado.
The next spot I love here is Southern California is in a little area of San Diego called North Park. North Park is an up and coming neighborhood with tons of great bars and eateries. My favorite restaurant in North Park is Alexander’s.
I love Italian food and this place is amazing! It has amazing food, drinks, ambiance, and price point. I love visiting Alexander’s in the summer. On a cool summer night, not only can you enjoy some wonderful food but if you are lucky and seated outside, you can enjoy the old black and white move that they project onto the back of the restaurant wall.
This plce is perfect for date night but if for some reason the babysitter falls through, Alexander’s is also very kid friendly.
The last spot I wanted to share with you is beautiful and amazing Balboa Park. Balboa Park is our city park that is filled with museums, cultural exhibits, gardens, and it is located right next door to the World Famous San Diego Zoo.
Balboa Park is absolutely gorgeous. My family and I like to go there on the weekends to have a picnic and enjoy the outdoors. The kids like to watch the airplanes fly over us ansd listening to the tailwinds whiz through the tree tops. On any given day you will see an outdoor yoga class, roller bladers, boot camp classes, runners, kids playing, or families picnicking. I love it here.
