Welcome to our blog! My name is Victoria and as you can see under my bio I am a SoCal livin’, football lovin’ (Go Chargers!), mother of two. I am also a wife and a veteran teacher. I have taught other grades besides first but most of my time I have spent teaching primary grades. I just love first grade. I wanted to start this blog as a creative outlet to share ideas, resources, and activities. With the roll out of Common Core, many educators were sent kicking and screaming out of their comfort zone. I just wanted a platform to explore this journey with other educators and because I am such a scaredy cat I dragged along my mom for the ride.
Teach with a Smile is a bilingual venture and partnership. As you may or may not know there is little to no resources available in Spanish. We feel frustrated because there aren’t many Common Core resources but this frustration and lack of resources are a normal way of life for educators that teach in Spanish. This is the reason my mom and I wanted to make this a bilingual venture. Hopefully, this will allow for entire professional learning teams to have access to great quality Common Core resurces and ideas. My mom has been in the business of edcuation for over 32 years spending many years teaching in primary bilingual education. She started out as an aide and eventually decided to get her degree and credential to become a classroom teacher. She is an amazing teacher! I aspire to be as good as her one day. I learned my love of God, friends, and family from her. You’ll never meet a more amazing woman.
Speaking of my family, as I mentioned before, I am a wife who is truly blessed to have such a supportive husband. He is also an educator so he completely understands our love of teaching and the frustrations we encounter from time to time. I also have two wonderful children.
Well, I think that is all for now. I just wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about me. I hope you all come back and continue to check out the ideas, resources, and activites we have to offer. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to comment or say hello.
